About ConvergeSouth

Online conference? In Greensboro?

Greensboro has more than bloggers. In fact, Greensboro is “tech central,” according to Lisa Stone, co-founder of BlogHer, a national initiative to create opportunities for women who blog to pursue exposure, education, community and economic empowerment. ConvergeSouth, Greensboro’s annual “blogger-con,”is one reason BlogHer is bringing the Reach Road Show to Greensboro in 2008.

ConvergeSouth is billed as “the South’s only free conference focused on moving North Carolina toward breakthroughs in creativity and diversity on the Web. Exploring the digital revolution in publishing and expression, ConvergeSouth focuses on radical digital publishing, videocasting and podcasting, according to the website at ConvergeSouth.com.

ConvergeSouth will focus on multimedia and journalism creativity for everyone. Nationally recognized authorities on new media and online multimedia will take part in daytime programming at A&T on Friday and Saturday. On both nights, ConvergeSouth showcases the creative community with in a Film Festival and Independent Music Performance in downtown venues to which the entire community is invited for a small fee. Both events are free to ConvergeSouth attendees.

The conference is hosted for the third year by NC A&T State University. A&T’s gracious cost-free venue has enabled the volunteer conference organizers to again offer ConvergeSouth free of charge to both the local and national communities.

ConvergeSouth is sponsored by the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation, NC A&T State University, TechTriad, EdCone.com, Design Changes, Carolinanet, and The North Carolina Science Blogging Conference, a BlogTogether Event, Apple Spice Junction, and Guerrilla Muse and xark. ConvergeSouth is organized by volunteers Dr. Sue Polinsky and Ed Cone with Sean Coon, Janet Wright and Andy Coon, along with the hard work, generosity and talents of worldwide bloggers and Internet entrepreneurs.
